The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, UCO has evolved throughout its history that began in the period of incorporation of the University of Cordoba and the start up of the LRU, the mid-70's with a structure centers at academic chairs were turned into apartments. In 1986, after application of the LRU form two Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology who met in the current at the end of 1991.

In 2001, three of the four units that are moving to a common building the new campus of UCO Rabanales, Severo Ochoa building, are those for ETSIAM centers, Veterinary and Sciences. The fourth unit remains in the Faculty of Medicine.

The objectives of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology are coordinating the teaching of the subject area in schools that teach in accordance with the teaching program of the UCO and support educational activities and initiatives and faculty researchers assigned to him.

In 2006, this program became the current Master "Molecular Biotechnology, Cellular and Genetic", with mention to the excellence of the MEC. Since the 2015-16 academic year, it has been transformed into the Master in "Biotechnology" which is also coordinated by our Department.

Finally, it should be noted that the faculty of the Department is fully involved in research work as reflected in the existence of 9 research groups under the auspices of the Andalusian Research Plan (IAP), perform their work with a average rating very positive and high participation in research projects at regional, national and international levels.
