I hold a BSc in Biology from University of Córdoba (UCO) in 2011. Between 2008 and 2011 I joined the Department of Genetics (UCO) as an internship student, under the supervision of Profs. Antonio Di Pietro and Maria Isabel González Roncero studying the mechanisms of infection of tomato plants by Fusarium oxysporum. I was awarded a competitive Undergraduate Student Fellowship by the Spanish Ministry of Science & Education (2010-2011). In 2012 I completed a MSc in Molecular, Cellular and Genetic Biotechnology at UCO and a MSc Bioinformatics and Computational Biology by the Institute of Health Carlos III (2013).
In 2014, I joined the Fungal Physiology lab of Prof. Ronald de Vries at the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute, The Netherlands. My PhD focused on the carbon metabolism in the industrial fungus Aspergillus niger. The aim was to reconstruct the carbon metabolic network of Aspergillus and apply it to predict carbon metabolic capabilities in other fungi. In 2018, I obtained my PhD at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands.
In 2019, I joined Prof. Tsang’s lab at Concordia as a postdoctoral researcher to study thermophily in fungi. At the same time, I have been participating in two international consortia on the genus-wide analysis of Trichoderma species and on gene curation of metabolic networks of the model filamentous fungus A. nidulans.
Since January 2022, I am back Department of Genetics, at University of Córdoba as a María Zambrano postdoctoral researcher funded by the Program for the Requalification of the Spanish University System, with a project aimed at using -omics data to address the virulence mechanisms of the fungal pathogen F. oxysporum.
