Sara studied at the University of Córdoba, where she completed a BSc in Biology in 2014 and a MSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2015. In the period 2015-2018, Sara formed part of a MSCA-ITN called METARNA, where she obtained a Ph.D in Biochemistry in 2018 by the University of Bordeaux, France. After completing her Ph.D, Sara moved to Germany, where she had the chance to carry out postdoctoral research in the genetics, microbiology, and host-fungi interactions fields on some highly ranked centers such as the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich, and the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim.
Since 2022, Sara is back to the Department of Genetics of the University of Córdoba as part of the Fusarium Lab. She currently has a María Zambrano postdoctoral contract funded by the Program for the Requalification of the Spanish University System to perform phosphoproteomic analysis of MAP kinase signaling underpinning invasive hyphal growth and pathogenicity.
