I obtained my BSc degree in Biology (2013) and completed a MSc in Biotechnology and Biomedicine (2014) from the University of Jaén. During my MSc I worked on the application of genomics in the study of transposable elements in ants, a topic I continued to investigate within the Human and Animal Molecular Genetics group at UJA under the supervision of Professors P. Lorite and T. Palomeque (2015-2021). My work primarily involved the characterization of Mariner transposable elements, horizontal transfer events, and the cytogenetics and evolutionary implications of satellite DNA.
During this period, I completed a research stay at the MoZoo Lab of the University of Bologna with Professors A. Luchetti and B. Mantovani, where I performed comparative analyses of mobilomes across different species (2016).
Later (2021-2023), I joined the group of Professor J.A. López Escámez, Otology and Otoneurology – Genomics of Vestibular Disorders, at the GENYO Center. There, I conducted functional studies in cellular models of genes associated with Meniere’s disease, aiming to clarify molecular mechanisms of autoinflammation or autoimmunity.
In October 2024, I joined the Fusarium Lab, where I am working on the Patomodel project led by MV. Aguilar-Pontes PhD., contributing to the development of a metabolic model for fungal pathogenesis.
