I hold a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Granada in 2004 and a MSc in Genetics from University of Córdoba (UCO) in 2007. In 2010, I completed my PhD at the Department of Genetics of UCO funded by an FPI fellowship, on the identification of new virulence factors in the phytopathogenic fungus Fusarium oxysporum. In 2012, I obtained a competitive Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation to join the group of Miguel Peñalva at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology, Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas (CSIC) in Madrid, to study fundamental aspects of intracellular trafficking in the model fungus Aspergillus nidulans. In 2016, I was awarded a Lise Meintner research project from the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) to join the group of Hubertus Haas at the Department of Molecular Biology, Innsbruck Medical University, Austria, to study the role of iron homeostasis in the human pathogenic fungus Aspergillus fumigatus. Since 2018, I am back at the Department of Genetics, UCO, where I was awarded a project from the regional Government Junta de Andalucía to study the relevance of metal homeostasis in pathogenicity of F. oxysporum.
